Boal City
Graphic Design

Boal City is a local craft brewery that values quality beer and outdoor adventure. The brewery itself is located at the edge of Bear Meadows State Forest.
As the brewery was under construction, I was tasked to design an accurate topographic map based on one created by the Pennsylvania Department of Forestry of Topographic Surveys (1914-1915). The goal was to design something that fit Boal City's aesthetic and promoted their values.

Color
I use a green monochromatic palette to reflect the mountain range just past the wall that the mural resides on. The shades of green are natural, soft, and cozy. Orange is also used as an accent drawing from the brand color to point out the brewery's location on the map.

Type
Sailors is used because of its bold, uniform, stamp-like style. These characteristics, along with its rounded corners, compliment the topographic lines and that it is a map. Overall Sailors is friendly, bold, and easily readable.
Systems
An important aspect of topographic maps, is a system for conveying information. Aside from elevation, I included lines and symbols for features like trails, roads, water, marshland, woodland, and so on.

In addition to the map, I've worked on assets for Boal City including an infographic decal of the brewing process, custom wallpapers, merchandise, schedule templates, and beer labels.
